Dr. Hilda Williamson received her doctor of education from The George Washington University in Washington, DC, and her area of concentration was higher education administration. She received her master's from Hampton University and baccalaureate from Hampton University (Institute) in nursing.  Dr. Williamson recently served as the Interim Dean for the School of Nursing for 14 months. She has practiced as a family nurse practitioner for 20 years, and for 14 of those years, she worked with vulnerable populations. She has worked for the U.S. Army in several leadership roles, as Chief of Occupational Health and an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve Nurse Corp. Currently, she is the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Nursing. Her research interests include the recruitment and retention of students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and the utilization of complementary and alternative practices in the management of selected chronic conditions(Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus). She has been the principal investigator of a 1.2 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration(HRSA) that focuses on increasing nursing opportunities for individuals through the development and implementation of a model pre-entry, post-enrollment, and retention program for persons from disadvantaged backgrounds entering the Hampton University School of Nursing. She also serves as the co-principal investigator of a grant funded by the National Library of Medicine Environmental Health Information Partnership Outreach Program to disseminate health information to the school-age population who experience health disparities. She is  an academic advisor on a 1.3 million dollar HRSA  grant  which focus on the successful transition of veterans into and the completion of the baccalaureate nursing program at Hampton University.
