Dr. Angela Luvara earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Masters of Advanced Study in Criminology, Law, and Society from the University of California at Irvine, and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Georgia State University. Dr. Luvara is a Critical Race Theorist whose research focuses on infrapolitical resistance—the ways in which individuals navigate and resist systems of oppression that often go unnoticed. Dr. Luvara is also an artist and photographer, and utilizes photography as a methodological tool in her research. Much of her research is inspired by her fellow artists, as well as her prior work with young people in the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, public schools, and nonprofits.
